Welcome to Agape Parenting!
I am a Board Certified Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, wife, and mother. Over the last two decades, I have come to believe that the way we take care of and tend to our children should emulate how God tends to us. If we follow the example of how God comes up beside us with love during our best and worst seasons of life, we can gather a full understanding of how we should be loving our children and encouraging them.
Our Heavenly Father’s love is Agape love. It is a constant love that is without condition or pretense. It is all encompassing and restores what is broken. It is secure and provides peace, comfort, and rest. It produces growth because it is affirming and yet refining. It is so powerful that when we understand how great, how deep, and how wide it is, we respond to it in return.
I long to love my children with Agape love. I want to be a parent who is safe, comforting, affirming, and loving. I desire that my children’s obedience come from a place of security and a heart posture that recognizes the depth of how much they are loved. My hope for them is that they know God’s presence in the valleys and mountaintops of their lives. I want them to seek after Him through trials and through triumphs.
I pray the same for you. I hope and trust that this website will help you along your parenting journey to connect more deeply with your child and to help with any struggles that you or your child are facing. Above all, I pray that the information, guidance, and support herein helps you to love your children with Agape love.
